How to Make Rice Krispie Treats With Marshmallow Fluff – Cook Til Yummy

How to Make Rice Krispie Treats With Marshmallow Fluff

Rice Krispie treats look very simple and easy to make. Well, they really are! But that’s only if you have the right proportions and correct timing. Truth is, it’s also so easy to mess up.

If you think about these treats, the immediate thing that comes to mind would probably be that soft, ooey-gooey, buttery treat from your childhood. We mostly have it in summers, but it’s an any-day treat really. But for sure you’ve had ones that are flavorless, really hard, and stick on the roof of your mouth also?

The internet is flooded with various recipes and I’ve tried and tested some just because we don’t have a family classic for this one. Some turned out good, others not so. But you know what always comes out good for me? Using marshmallow fluff!

Rice Krispie Treats

Back when marshmallow fluff was still not a staple in our kitchen, we’d make rice Krispie treats after Halloween using regular mallows. We had someone in the neighborhood who has a thing for marshmallows and the kids would always come home with a few bags after Trick or Treat.

We’d try different rice krispie treat recipes but I just couldn’t get the right consistency. For some reason, it’s like a hit or miss for me. One batch it’s soft and gooey, next batch it could be hard as a rock.

It could be that I turned up the heat too high or probably I used mallows that have been sitting around for a while. Whatever the case, I was really eager to find the perfect recipe for me.

You know me, I don’t let a bad batch stop me from doing what I love most. We can go for storebought packs but you know how rice krispie treats are best eaten within days after they were made.

Out of all the recipes I’ve tried, I’m not sure why I haven’t tested the ones that make use of marshmallow fluff. But when I finally did, oh my, I hit the bullseye on my first try!

It’s easier, faster, and you have lesser chances of screwing it up. Here’s my version of how to make rice krispie treats with marshmallow fluff that might make you ditch your old recipe.

A Twist on the Classic

I can almost hear you say why mess with the classic!

Okay, so if you already have the perfect recipe using regular mallows, you can stick to it but you might also want to try this and see the difference. Let me know if this recipe helps in making this treat easier to prepare for you.

However, I’m also open to trying your recipe if you’re open to sharing it with me. Wink, wink! Maybe I can try your recipe and finally find a way to dispose of our Halloween mallows before they dry out and become stiff for regular consumption.

Rice Krispie Treats

But really, all I’m after is something that I can make regularly having constant results so I can make it part of my well-kept recipes. If twisting the classic is the way for me not to throw a bad batch out constantly, then I’m all up for it. Although, that doesn’t mean I’ll stop trying to make the treat out of regular mallows.

It’s just that for now, I already found what works best for me and maybe this is something you’ll also love if you have the same dilemma as I have. So for those who already have the perfect recipe and want to share it with us, we’d truly appreciate it if you’d drop it in the comment box below. ?

What Is Marshmallow Fluff?

Marshmallow fluff is not entirely new to the scene as it’s been around since the early 20th century. It’s also known as marshmallow cream or creme, marshmallow spread, and marshmallow paste. Basically, it’s a spreadable version of the good ol’ marshmallow that we know.

Rice Krispie Treats

Store-bought marshmallow fluff is sold in jars and is usually found in local groceries. It tastes just like marshmallows and is smooth and creamy. It’s made of egg whites, sugar, corn syrup, and vanilla.

Advantages of Using Marshmallow Fluff in Rice Krispie Treats

If you’re a little hesitant to use marshmallow fluff in making rice krispie treats, here are some advantages you shouldn’t miss.

  • It saves you time as it melts faster and easier than regular marshmallows.
  • It’s easier to stir and spread onto the pan.
  • It’s not as sticky as marshmallows so it’s safe for people wearing braces or dentures.

How to Store Rice Krispie Treats

Be honest, can your rice krispie treats last more than a week? In my kitchen, it won’t. LOL.

However, just for the purpose of knowing the real deal, make sure that you store them in an airtight container and keep it at room temperature. They should last around 5 days before starting to stale.

Rice Krispie Treats

Rice Krispie Treats with Marshmallow Fluff Recipe

  • Total Time: 2 Hours 10 Minutes
  • Yield: 16 Squares 1x

Description

Rice Krispie treats with a twist – using only 3 easy-to-find ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  1. 5 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
  2. 4 tablespoons salted butter
  3. 7 ounces marshmallow fluff

Kitchen tools you will need:

  1. Medium saucepan
  2. Large mixing bowl
  3. Rubber spatula
  4. 8-inch square pan
  5. Non-stick baking spray

Instructions

  1. Grease the mixing bowl, rubber spatula, and square pan using non-stick spray.
  2. Pour the Rice Krispies Cereal onto the mixing bowl and set it aside.
  3. Melt the butter in the saucepan over low heat.
  4. Add the marshmallow fluff into the pan and stir constantly until well combined with the butter.
  5. Once the mixture becomes smooth, pour it over the cereals and toss to coat.
  6. Pour the cereal mixture onto the baking pan and spread into an even layer.
  7. Let it rest for 2 hours and cut into squares.
  8. Store in an airtight container and consume within 5 days.

Notes

Resting Time: 2 Hours

  1. For an even cooler twist, you can use half Rice Krispies and half Fruity Pebbles.
  2. You can decorate the treats to suit different holidays such as Easter, the 4th of July, Halloween, and Christmas. Or, you can add some toppings such as chocolate chips, nuts, and sprinkles.
  3. Add a few drops of vanilla extract to enhance the flavor of your treats.
  4. If you’re using unsalted butter, don’t add salt to the recipe. It’s hard to distribute the grains of salt evenly into the mixture so it’s better to leave it out than have pockets of salt in the treats randomly.
  5. Marshmallow fluff lasts for 6-8 months but may crystallize little by little after the jar is opened. Consume it before it becomes gritty.
