DIY Slime Using Marshmallows

DIY Slime Using Marshmallows

    Description

These days, slime is a big hit with the kids. It comes in different colors and different varieties such as fluffy slime, crunchy slime and glitter slime. They just seem to enjoy the stretching and squishing. Here’s how to make edible marshmallow slime that’s fun and safe for kids of all ages.

    Ingredients

    Scale
    1. 1 bag of marshmallows
    2. 2 tablespoon coconut oil (or any vegetable oil)
    3. ½ cup cornstarch + a little more for mixing
    4. ½ cup icing sugar + a little more for mixing
    5. Food coloring of your choice

    Kitchen tools you’ll need

    1. Heavy-bottomed pan
    2. Mixing bowl
    3. Nonstick cooking spray

    Instructions

    1. Put the marshmallows and coconut oil onto the pan and melt over medium heat.
    2. Stir continuously until fully melted.
    3. Pour the melted marshmallow into the mixing bowl and add in the dry ingredients.
    4. Grease your hands with nonstick cooking spray or a little oil and mix the marshmallow mixture using your hands.
    5. Sprinkle some cornstarch on a clean counter or any flat surface and transfer the mixture.
    6. Knead until you get a slimy consistency. It should be stretchable but not sticky. You may keep adding cornstarch and icing sugar until you get the correct texture.
    7. Divide the slime into 2 or 3 portions depending on your preference and add some food coloring.
    8. Knead again until the food coloring is completely incorporated into the slime.
    9. Enjoy!

    Notes

    1. When melting the marshmallows, you may also try the microwave method. Place some mallows and oil in a heatproof bowl and heat in the microwave on high for 30 seconds and stir, then proceed with the next steps.
    2. For more sensory development, you may add edible sprinkles or edible glitter to the slime.
    3. You can store the slime in an airtight container and keep it at room temperature for 2 to 3 days. Make sure there’s minimal humidity where you store it. Also, do not refrigerate it because that will cause it to lose its’ texture.
