Description
Turkish desserts are quite popular for their unique taste and stunning presentation. Trileçe is a unique take on the classic Tres Leches cake. If you love the classic Tres Leches cake, you will love this caramel sauce!
Ingredients
1 1/4 cup (250g) sugar
4 tablespoons of butter at room temperature
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1/8 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Melt the sugar over medium heat in a deep saucepan. Stir occasionally. The sugar should be melted in around 5 minutes.
Reduce heat and carefully mix in the butter. The mixture will bubble a lot until all all the butter is melted and mixed in. Keep stirring until it’s thoroughly mixed.
Slowly and gradually add heavy cream to the mixture. Make sure you stir continuously. The mixture will bubble and rise; that is normal. Clumps forming is also normal. Keep stirring until the mixture is smooth again. You may need to bring the heat back up to medium to get all the clumps to melt.
When the mixture is smooth, pour it into a heat proof measuring cup to let it cool. It will thicken as it cools. Let it cool down completely before using it.
Notes
The deeper the sauce pan is that you use the less the mixture will sputter and splatter out of the pan as you’re making it. Even so, some of the hot mixture may splatter onto you or your clothes. You may want to wear gloves and an apron the first few times you do this.
Do not let the mixture burn or start smoking because it will then taste bitter. If this happens you have to start over again.
If the butter starts to separate, continue to stir while removing the sauce pan from the heat. Keep stirring until everything is combined again.
